Abstract:

Tragedy hits the New York-based Cardinal family when their car is involved in an accident which leaves twelve-year-old Lou and seven-year-old Oz without a father and their mother in a coma. It seems their world has been shattered forever, until their great-grandmother, Louisa Mae, agrees to take the children in. But just as they are coming to grips with their mother's situation and the children are starting to rebuild their lives, their rural idyll becomes threatened by the discovery of natural gas on the mountain. But determined to protect her beloved mountain, Louisa Mae refuses to sell her land and the locals turn against her. Then as if that's not enough they find themselves caught up in another battle, that will be played out in a courtroom. It's a battle of justice, survival and for the right to stay together in the only place they know as home.
