Abstract:

These articles discuss the implications of the Vietnamese conflict. Section I surveys the conditions in Vietnam's capital cities Hanoi and Saigon; the state of the Amerasian children left behind, and their resettlement in the U.S. under the Orderly Departure Program. Section II, on the issue of Vietnam's occupation of Cambodia, covers the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge and the guerilla resistance, and includes the official position of the American Government represented by Jeane Kirkpatrick and Paul Wolfowitz. Section III focuses on the aftermath of the war in the U.S., covering the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Washington, and the issue of prisoners of war and missing persons. Section IV debates the question of American involvement in Indochina and the future direction of U.S. foreign policy and includes the views of Norman Podhoretz, James Chace and George P. Shultz.
