This book is very useful and very well laid out. I like it better than any other tax list book I've seen. Most of them are just a plain list of names with only number of tithes. The author has extracted all the information that there is to extract for every year. Most books are only covering one year; what makes this so valuable is the very extensive, comprehensive and multilevel sorted index and the fact that 11 years in succession are included so you can see where new names were added and correlate that with prior years to find out when new male titheables attained a majority age(16 or 21). This is how tax lists are to be used to the greatest benefit. On top of that, some authors arrange everything alphabetically and then don't index, destroying the neighbor relationships in the process. This author also even includes the date of the visitations so you can tell who was recorded on the same day and in the same area, this is invaluable for establishing residence patterns, see other family members nearby to infer in-laws and extended families like married daughters, etc. The author also includes the total amount taxed for each person and the breakdown of the individuals' taxable assets. this lets one determine the relative wealth and social standing in the community. Many of the assessor's notations are included like occupation or relationship such as Blacksmith, Reverend, Potter, Miller, Schoolmaster, Waterman, etc, etc or "son of ...". It has a very nice and thorough introduction and users guide with a very good bibliography as well. This is a fantastic resource on this burned county and a treasure to have. This is what all books of this type should be, a valuable time saver and brick wall busting resource that will never lose its value.
