Mark Twain once noted that there is no humor without pain, and you come away from this book knowing where the humor came from. Years of poverty, seeing others get the spotlight before she did, and botched plastic surgery could have made her a bitter, shrill cynic, but instead it made her a very funny cynic who has invented her own comic niche. Particularly painful was the tale of the disintegration of her marriage while the cameras were rolling in her reality show. It was particularly touching that as she began to get roles, she always managed to get her star-struck parents on the set during production. If you like Kathy already you will like her more when you finish this book.
