Not Yet Rose is a wonderful addition to the new baby shelf.  Rose is expecting a new sibling and she's not sure how she feels.  Does she want a sister, a brother, or no baby at all?  Will she like being a big sister?  Will the new baby like her?  Susanna Leonard Hill's warm story gives children a glimpse of what life with a new baby is like as well as beautifully portraying Rose's conflicting, true-to-life emotions in a way children will understand and relate to.  The fact that Nicole Rutten's lovely illustrations show Rose and her family as hamsters rather than people gives children a little helpful distance to process their own emotions.  The language and pacing of the story make it a pleasure to read aloud and to listen to, and children will ask for it again and again.  Parents will appreciate the many opportunities for discussion that the story facilitates.  This book is a treasure for any family expecting a new baby.
