"The Living World" by C. Michael Cook - Melissa attempts to help anorexic Carrie but when Carrie whispers to her "Everything you put in your mouth is dead" Melissa begins to be influenced by the way Carrie thinks. Melissa brings Carrie a jar of honey and attempts to feed her by telling her it isn't dead and nothing had to die to make it but after a few last words of which Melissa can only make out "everything" and "everywhere" Carrie suffers cardiac arrest and dies. Melissa eventually realizes that Carrie was attempting to relay to her how everything living depends upon the dead and, convinced by the revelation, Melissa drowns herself in the tub.

"After" by Kealan Patrick Burke - David Hoffman goes on a shotgun rampage when he's forty-five in a long abandoned high school before killing himself. The story goes over the details of his unhappy teenage years and why he was motivated to end his life in such a fashion.
